Canadian Embassy Scholarship Details
Fully Funded Canadian Embassy Scholarship by the Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship Program at the University of Toronto is intended to recognize international students who posseses exceptional academic achievement and creativity and who are recognized as leaders within their school. A special emphasis is placed on the impact the student has had on the life of their school and community, and their future potential to contribute positively to the global community. Awarded annually, these scholarships recognize outstanding students from around the world, including international students studying at Canadian high schools. This is U of T’s most prestigious and competitive scholarship for international students. Each year approximately 37 students will be named Lester B. Pearson Scholars.
Canadian Embassy Scholarship Benefits
The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarships sponsored by Canadian Government will cover tuition, books, incidental fees, and full residence support for four years. This Canadian Embassy scholarship is tenable only at the University of Toronto.
Canadian Embassy Scholarship Eligibility
An international student nominated by their school will be invited to submit an application to the Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship program.
Canadian Embassy Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:
- an international student (i.e. a non-Canadian requiring a study permit)
- an original and creative thinker
- committed to school and community
- a high achiever in academic and creative pursuits
- enthusiastic about learning and intellectual exploration
- have demonstrated strong leadership skills
- currently in their final year of secondary school or have graduated no earlier than June 2018
- intending to begin university in the upcoming academic year (students already attending post-secondary studies cannot be considered; students starting their studies in January 2019 at another post-secondary institution cannot be considered)

1. THE CANADIAN FRANCOPHONIE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (CFSP)
Canadian Francophonie Scholarship Program (CFSP) is designed to build institutional capacity by training employed nationals from developing countries of the Francophonie.
A quota system is used to select candidates for each recipient country. Using the quota approach, recipient countries can define their own priorities for training, as well as the level of training necessary to develop their institutions.
The program is funded entirely by the Government of Canada.
2. STUDY IN CANADA SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAM
Study in Canada Scholarships provide students from post-secondary institutions in eligible countries/territories with the opportunity to study or conduct research in Canadian post-secondary institutions at the college, undergraduate, and graduate levels.

3. BANTING POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS
The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship program provides funding to the very best postdoctoral applicants, both nationally and internationally, who will positively contribute to Canadian economic, social, and research-based growth.
Among the objectives of the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship program are to: attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent, both nationally and internationally, develop leadership potential, position them for success as tomorrow’s research leaders
The scholarship is worth $70,000 CAD per year (taxable) and is for 2 years.
4. CIFAR GLOBAL SCHOLARS
CIFAR is a charitable organization supported by the Governments of Canada, Alberta, and Quebec, as well as foundations, individuals, corporations, and Canadian and international partners.
All national and international students are eligible to apply for the CIFAR Global Scholars program. The application period for the cohort begins in September.
A $100,000 CAD grant will be awarded over two years to CIFAR global scholars .
5. CIHR FELLOWSHIP
Applicants with highly qualified backgrounds in all areas of health research can apply for fellowships at the post-PhD or post-health professional degree levels to gain experience in health research either in Canada or abroad.
For a single award, the maximum amount is $ 60,000 per year for a maximum of five years. The value and duration of each award is based on the applicant’s educational background, licensure (if applicable), location of residence, and experience.
6. MITACS ELEVATE
Mitacs Elevate offers a unique professional development curriculum as part of a postdoctoral fellowship. Fellows work on complex problems. As Fellows, they progress through the program in a cohort, giving them cross-disciplinary networking and peer-learning opportunities they would not otherwise have.
Fellows split their time between the projects of their partner organizations and academic institution-based research with their academic supervisor during the fellowship. Elevate fellows receive a minimum salary/stipend of $55,000 per year.
7. RESEARCH ASSOCIATE PROGRAM
National Research Council Canada’s Research Associate Program gives promising international and national scientists and engineers the opportunity to work in a challenging research environment in their early career.
The Research Associate Program is open to those with a Ph.D. in natural science or engineering, or a Master’s degree in an engineering field earned within the last five years.
8. SAUVÉ SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Jeanne Sauvé Public Leadership Program is an integrated, intercultural and international program based at Sauvé House in Montreal.
Its mission is to develop young leaders capable of meeting those challenges by communicating and collaborating across cultures, and thinking outside the box.
During the Residential Phase, Jeanne Sauvé Fellows receive a living stipend and are accommodated in the Sauvé House at no cost.
9. TRUDEAU SCHOLARSHIPS
Developing leaders for the betterment of their communities, Canada, and the world in a three-year leadership program designed to train outstanding doctoral candidates.
Brave Spaces provides generous funding for doctoral studies to up to 16 national and international scholars each year in addition to leadership training.
The Trudeau doctoral scholars receive up to $60,000 per year for three years to cover tuition, living expenses, networking, travel allowance, and language learning activities.
10. VANIER CANADA GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS
The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS) program is named in honor of Major-General Georges P. Vanier, the first francophone Governor General of Canada. Scholarship recipients receive $50,000 each year for three years during their doctoral studies.
11. VISITING FELLOWSHIPS IN CANADIAN GOVERNMENT LABORATORIES PROGRAM
On behalf of Canadian government laboratories and research institutions, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada ( NSERC ) administers the Visiting Fellowships in Canadian Government Laboratories Program.
Visiting Fellowships in Canadian Government Laboratories (VF) is an opportunity for promising scientists and engineers to work with research groups or leaders in Canadian government laboratories and research institutions.
Scholarships are worth $53,077 per year (one year, renewable for two more years).
12. ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAMS
On behalf of all participating OAS member states, the Organization of American States (OAS) coordinates a multilateral scholarship program. Graduate students from OAS member states are eligible for OAS scholarships to study in another OAS member state.
Students interested in experiencing Canada’s academic expertise should apply for these scholarships.
Students interested in participating should send their application directly to the National Liaison Agency (ONE) designated in their country.
13. CANADA-U.S. FULBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP

Canada-ASEAN Scholarships offer students from member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) the opportunity to study or research at Canadian post-secondary institutions at the college, undergraduate, and graduate levels.
There are two sub-programs for this scholarship: Canada-ASEAN Scholarships for mid-career professionals and Canada-ASEAN Scholarships for students.
15. CANADA-CARICOM PROGRAM
As part of the Canada-CARICOM Program, CARICOM members and associate member states have the opportunity to attend Canadian post-secondary institutions for professional development, graduate study or research.

16. CANADA-CHINA SCHOLARS’ EXCHANGE PROGRAM
We award scholarships to full-time, permanent teaching or research staff, master’s or doctoral graduates, and nonacademics in China holding senior professional positions (e.g., judges, broadcasters, economists), so that upon their return home they can contribute to life in China and mutual understanding between Canada and China.
17. EMERGING LEADERS IN THE AMERICAS PROGRAM
With Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) scholarships, post-secondary students from Latin America and the Caribbean can study or conduct research at Canadian post-secondary institutions, at the college, undergraduate, and graduate levels.
